About Us
Overview
Established in 1961, Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd. (IMFA) is one of the leading producers of value-added ferro chrome in India. Self-reliance lies at the heart of our business philosophy. Guided by this principle, we have expanded our horizons over the years, venturing into captive mining, and captive power generation. The company’s integrated business model has positioned it as a reliable and cost-effective producer of best-in-class quality ferrochrome, both domestically and internationally.
Our Beginnings
Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd. (IMFA) was born out of the visionary leadership of Dr. Bansidhar Panda, a trailblazer who laid the foundation for Odisha’s industrial growth. With advanced degrees from Michigan Technological University and Harvard University, Dr. Panda was deeply inspired by the transformative power of science and innovation. In 1961, he returned to Odisha to establish a ferroalloy plant at Therubali, in remote district of Koraput— a bold step that revolutionized the state’s industrial landscape.
Supporting him at every step was, Mrs. Ila Panda, whose belief in community development was as steadfast as her husband’s vision for industrial progress. A patron of art and literature and an alumna of Shanti Niketan, she brought a unique perspective to the IMFA story. Her deep conviction in the transformative power of education, healthcare, and cultural enrichment became a cornerstone of the company’s ethos.
Together, they envisioned a future where industrial growth and societal well-being go hand in hand—their legacy continues to guide IMFA today. The company remains a testament to their shared dedication, balancing innovation and sustainability with a commitment to uplifting communities and creating lasting impact.
