IMFA Group's first phase expansion inaugurated
27 MVA furnace producing 35,000 tonnes per annum ferro chrome
Total installed furnace capacity now stands at 157 MVA

IMFA Group, India's largest producer of ferro alloys, today announced the completion of the first phase expansion comprising of a 27 MVA ferro chrome furnace taking the total installed capacity to 157 MVA. The furnace put up by an Group Company Utkal Manufacturing & Services Ltd (UMSL) at the industrial complex in Choudwar, Odisha is capable of producing 35,000 tonnes per annum of ferro chrome.

The furnace was inaugurated today by Shri Biswabhushan Harichandan, Hon'ble Minister for Industry, RD & Law, Govt of Odisha and Shri Prafulla Chandra Ghadei, Hon'ble Minister for Finance, Govt of Odisha in the august presence of Shri Dharmananda Behera, Hon'ble MLA from Tangi-Choudwar at a function which was presided by Dr Bansidhar Panda, Founder-Chairman, IMFA Group. Mr Subhrakant Panda, Managing Director, IMFA Group and Mrs Paramita Mahapatra, Managing Director, UMSL were also present at the function.

This project showcases IMFA Group's strength with regard to in-house design, technology and project management capabilities. A dedicated team worked round the clock to ensure that it was completed in a record time of 11 months at a cost of Rs 50 crores. The furnace has state of the art control systems and has implemented pollution control measures in line with the Group's commitment to environment friendly operations.

IMFA Group enjoys the unique distinction of being the only producer in India to produce in excess of 1 lakh tonnes ferro chrome per annum and is also the leading exporter of this value-added product earning foreign exchange in excess of USD 50 million in 2005-06.

Speaking on the eve of the function Mr Subhrakant Panda, Managing Director, IMFA Group said : "We embarked upon this project with a view to capitalise on the sustained growth in stainless steel production leading to strong demand for ferro chrome and, in the process, maintain our leadership position in the industry."

He added that IMFA Group is taking steps to bring to fruition the second and third phases of the expansion programme announced last year which will see two more ferro chrome furnaces (27 MVA & 48 MVA) and a 120 MW power plant coming up in Choudwar.
