Ekalabya Award for William Xalxo

Young Indian hockey defender William Xalxo has been selected for the 12th Ekalabya Award for his 'brilliant' performance in the international arena in the last two years.

Xalxo, a 19-year-old player, who represented the country in the Athens Olympic Games, will receive a cash award of Rs 75,000 besides a memento. The award, instituted by the Indian Metal Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), trust run by IMFA Group, said in a release that Xalxo was selected at a meeting here on Sunday.

Besides Xalxo, Monalisa Mohanty (rowing) and Subhadra Pradhan (hockey) would be conferred with citations and a cash award of Rs 10,000 for their 'remarkable performance' in their respective fields, the release added.

The past recipients of the award included Indian hockey captain Dilip Tirkey, his teammates Ignace Tirkey and Prabodh Tirkey, athlete Rachita Panda and cricketers S S Das and Debasis Mohanty.
