Jul 20, 2004
Internal Press Release

IMFA Group, India's largest integrated producer of ferro alloys with its own power plant and mines, today announced that its Nuasahi Chromite Mines in Odisha's Keonjhar District has been awarded the prestigious ISO 14001 certificate signifying the presence of a proper environmental management system. Nuasahi Chromite Mines thus becomes the first underground metalliferous mines in the country to be ISO 14001 certified.

IRQS, a leading certification agency based at Mumbai, conducted a rigorous audit in April 2004 following which the ISO 14001 certification was recommended. IMFA Group already has unique multi-product & multi-location ISO 9000 quality certification while the 108 MW captive power plant located at Choudwar is also ISO 14001 certified. In fact, IMFA Group's ferro alloys operations were the first in India to be ISO 9000 certified while the power plant was only the second in the country to receive quality certification.

Commenting on the development Mr Subhrakant Panda, Joint Managing Director, said : "While pushing for maximum operational efficiency & productivity we also lay emphasis on being environment friendly as it is an important societal obligation. It is a matter of great pride for us that we have set standards by obtaining ISO 14001 certification for activities like power generation and chrome ore mining."
