Ekalabya Award for Prabodh Tirkey

Promising hockey player Prabodh Tirkey has been selected for the annual Ekalabya Award. This was announced here on Monday by IMPaCT, the Institutors of the award.

Prabodh, captain of the Indian sub-junior team that won the Asia Cup last year, will receive Rs 75,000 besides a memento at a function here.

Prabodh, along with his elder brother, Ignace Tirkey, was a member of the Indian team that won the Junior World Cup last year at Hobbart. He was also a member of the India Senior team that toured Australia for a four nation tournament.

Prabodh, who plays in the left-half position, is a tribal from Sundergarh district. He was a product of Panposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela.

Ignace Tirkey and Prasmita Mangaraj, who won a silver and two bronze medals at the recent Commonwealth Games in Manchester, will be given citation awards which carry cash awards of Rs 10,000 each.
