IMFA gets Rs.8K cr Project

Riding on the buoyancy in the metallurgical sector, the IMFA group is pursuing a Rs 8,000-crore project involving establishment of an alumina refinery at Therubali in Rayagada district and an aluminium smelter at Choudwar in Cuttack The company is likely to sign a MoU in this regard with the state government soon. The 45 year-old IMFA group, founded by Dr. Bansidhar Panda, has a strong presence in the ferro alloy sector and wants to foray into the aluminium industry to diversify operations, company officials said.

According to the plan, the company would set up a million tonne per annum (MTPA) alumina refinery at Therubali in Rayagada district and a 0.25 MTPA aluminium smelter, a 360 mega watt captive power plant besides downstream facilities at Choudwar in Cuttack district.

For this, the company has sought over 1,000 acres from the government at both the locations.
