Rashmi Ranjan Parida to get Ekalabya Puraskar

The prestigious 9th Ekalabya Puraskar for 2001 which carries a cash prize of Rs. 75,000/- and a memento has been bagged by rising cricketer Rashmi Ranjan Parida. In a meeting held at Bhubaneswar on October 7th, 2001 the Award Committee selected him for his outstanding performance during the period April 1999 to March 2001. Citations and a cash award of Rs 10,000/- each will also be conferred on Prabodh Kumar Tirkey (Hockey) and Tikina Gopal (Weightlifting) for distinguished achievement in their respective field of sports.

Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), which was formed by the IMFA Group, instituted the Ekalabya Puraskar in 1993 to encourage talented sports people from Odisha and this year the cash prize has been substantially increased from Rs 30,000/- to Rs 75,000/-. Past winners include such illustrious names as Debasis Mohanty (Cricket), Shiv Sundar Das (Cricket), Lazrus Barla (Hockey), Ms Anuradha Biswal (Athletics), and Dilip Kumar Tirkey (Hockey).
